Undoubtedly the luckiest young man in motorsport, Ryan Delane has landed himself the position of Tyrrell 002 and Tyrrell 006 back-up driver. There are many people in line for this position, but word has it nepotism played a part in his selection.

The younger Delane first began historic racing in his father's Lotus 18 Formula Junior, and when his father announced the purchase of Tyrrell 006, it was clear that Ryan would have to step up from 100 horsepower and 4 inches of treaded tire to 500 horsepower and twelve inches of tread, so he worked with trainer Bob McCormack. Under McCormack's supervision, Ryan became ready for Tyrrell 006 by driving McCormack's Formula Mazda, outfitted with data acquisition hardware and video. Upon Bob McCormack's okay, Ryan Delane drove his father's March 721 at an HMSA event, and then at an Historic Grand Prix sanctioned race so that he would be ready to take on 002 at the Monterey Historic.

Ryan Delane is also a founder of Retro Racegear, the merchandiser supplying Official Team Gear for Team Tyrrell. He doubles as the web site designer for the team, so should you have any feedback for the website, please contact him at webmaster@TeamTyrrell.com
